WELCOME TO TAI CHI!

Why Tai Chi?

In my work as an Alexander Technique teacher I focus on using the body in the way it was designed to be. We become aware of and can eradicate harmful postural habits which may be getting in the way of our everyday living and affecting our quality of life.

For me Tai Chi speaks the same language in that we focus on body alignment, strength, mobility and balance. However, the flowing movements of the form also give me the meditation practice and calmness I need. It is my time out from the niggling everyday stresses we sometimes have to deal with. Like the Alexander Technique, this is a life tool.

It is a low impact, gentle practice and something I know I will continue in the future. It is suitable for people of all ages and capabilities.

I have been practising Tai Chi for nearly forty years, and continue with my own learning and training. I would love to share these benefits with you.

Benefits

The series of movements, called the form, aligns and mobilises the body. With continued practise you should maintain and improve body stability, strength and balance and it’s meditative movements will facilitate a calm mental state. It is gentle yet also powerful.

Classes

You will be learning the Yang Cheng Man-Ch’ng form, brought to the West from China in the 1960s. Whilst we will focus on the health benefits of reducing both physical and mental stress we also bear in mind that it is a martial art. The class is structured with a gentle body warm up to release any tensions, followed by Qigong exercises (stationery Tai Chi exercises to stimulate the flow of energy internally in the body to clear the entire network of Chi channels, or ‘meridians’) and then the form.
