The muscular/skeletal system works in a very delicately balanced way. Over time, we adopt postural habits that interfere with this delicate balance. As we are usually unaware of any changes that occur in the body, any niggling pain that creeps in, due to misuse, will be exacerbated over the years until we have a bigger problem to deal with. This is because we are repeating the same postural patterns over and over again.

The success of the Alexander Technique lies with breaking these harmful postural habits. F.M. Alexander realised that the relationship between the head, neck and back is crucial to whether we can stay relatively free of tension and pain, or whether we continually hold tension which can lead to long term pain.

In effect the Alexander Technique tackles the source of the problem rather than treating the symptoms.
